School students in Mumbai have raised around Rs 90 lakh through crowd-sourcing efforts to aid healthcare workers.
Students of Hill Springs International School raised this amount through Fueladream.com, a crowd funding platform. The amount, raised in a fortnight, will be used to provide PPE kits to hospitals through the NGO Helping Hands. “The funds raised will help healthcare workers in Nair Hospital, Lokmanya Tilak Hospital, Cooper, St. George’s and Tata Memorial Hospital,” said Nalini Pinto, Principal – Hill Springs International School (HSIS), Tardeo.
Globally, the shortage of medical equipment to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, was even highlighted by the World Health Organiaation (WHO). In this backdrop, India’s hospitals are facing a Herculean task of dealing with a lack of test kits, beds, ventilators, protective gear, doctors, health workers, and other essential supplies.
In mid-April, Hill Springs International School decided to raise funds to help healthcare workers. “Healthcare workers are a priority and supporting them at this point in time is critical for the safety of everybody,” said Pinto.
Maharashtra, the worst affected state, accounts for 35 per cent of cases domestically. So far, around 110 students have raised this sum and the campaign is open till mid-June.
