The Southern California North vs. South All-Star Football Game is one of the longest running games in the San Gabriel Valley, and it will take place Friday at Schurr High School at 7:30 p.m.

Once called the “Hall of Fame” game, it has become a decades-old tradition, giving seniors one last time to wear their high school uniforms a few weeks before their high school graduation.

“It’s one more time to support the kids and support the athletes,” said Leon Ward, who is one of the game’s main organizers. “We’ve been doing this game a long time, there’s a great tradition about it, and a lot of great players in the San Gabriel Valley have taken part over the years. The teams have been practicing, having a great time and are excited about suiting up on Friday.”

San Marino head coach Nate Turner and Walnut’s Eric Peralta will coach the North team while the South will be coached by Schurr head coach Dave Ramos and Santa Fe’s Ryan Bateman.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate. General admission is $15, and kids 7 and under are free.

The South squad features a few talented seniors from La Habra in quarterback Aiden Pacillas, running backs Brandon Giron, Grey Grier and receiver Bryce Whitley.

La Serna, which won CIF-SS and state titles in the fall, is sending kicker Christian Miranda and lineman Riley Miller to be part of the South. The South will have a strong receiving core that includes Schurr’s Fabian Sanchez, South El Monte’s Nathan Mendoza, California’s Jonathan Castillo and Downey’s Dante Sams.

The North squad features CIF-SS divisional championship quarterback Alex Mustain from Rio Hondo Prep along with Mountain View quarterback Juan Villareal.

Charter Oak’s defensive linemen Andrew Avila and Curtiss Taylor along with West Covina linebacker Miles Reid and Walnut linebacker David Aguilar are also on the North squad.

On offense, the North has several weapons, including wide receiving core of Arroyo’s Javier Marquez, Upland’s Daunivan McGirt, Temple City’s Greg Hidalgo, Whittier’s Jacob Corral and Keppel’s Tony Higuera. Mountain View running back Ricky Guerrero, Upland’s Trent Dailey and Glendale’s Alfreo Intriago will shoulder most of the backfield duties.
